II Geodetic Fair was opened in the Silesia Culture Center in Katowice. About thirty exhibitors from Poland and other countries took part in this event. Exhibitors presented not only geodetic hardware and software, but also computers and equipment. Besides press publishers were presented on that fair. Bentley's stand was, as usual, the biggest, but stands of firms which presented the newest measurement technology were in the centre of client's attention.
Leica presented model TC 800 for the first time in Poland and Nikon presented instruments from the new series DTM-400. The form of selling organisation in some of firms had changed - Leica has a new agency on the south of our country and Zeiss had organised factories in Germany. Geotronics presented auto-aim at target stations and SOKKIA presented powerset.
Organizers estimate that the fair was visited by more then one thousand visitors; businessmen, geodesists, administration agents, scientists and students from Silesia and other parts of the country. The Minister of Building Mrs Barbara Blida also visited this exhibition. Fortunately there were organized presentations of products, scientific-technical conference and banquet which helped to make warmer too official atmosphere of this fair.
Loud, good jazz music, sweden-table and long-legs hostess in the short skirts were nice supplements of this evening. Next to all this qualities there were some defects of organisation. There were missing informations about place and time of particulars events. Guide-books were given only to participants of conference. At information desk there were possible to make inquiries. It was a pity that no free directory was published.
The idea of geodetic fair was a big success. Exhibitors had various opinions about localisation of next fair -some of them suggested to make it traditionally at the same place again, in the other oppinions it would be better to organize this undertaking each year in another place. Some asked what would be better to organize this event on weekend or during the week? One thing is known for sure, the fact that the II Silesia Goedetic Fair was a big commercial and prestige success.
